The YJ-5009A Volatile Basic Nitrogen Determinator (Semi-micro Kjeldahl Method) is an instrument developed in accordance with the requirements of the first method, the semi-micro Kjeldahl method, in the national standard GB 5009.228—2016 "National Food Safety Standard - Determination of Volatile Basic Nitrogen in Foods". Volatile basic nitrogen is an alkaline nitrogen-containing substance such as ammonia and amines produced by the decomposition of proteins in animal foods during putrefaction due to the action of enzymes and bacteria. Volatile basic nitrogen is volatile, it is distilled out in an alkaline solution, absorbed with boric acid solution, and titrated with a standard acid solution to calculate the content of volatile basic nitrogen.
